Peter recieves UTS Community Alumni Award - Oct. 23 2014

Vicki Sarah, Chancellor, Peter with award, Attila Brungs, Vice Chancellor
Here is the acceptance speech.
I am honoured to receive this award because of the place UTS has held in my life and continues to hold.
I became Catholic chaplain here in 1995 and enjoyed a wonderful 14 years serving the UTS community as Catholic chaplain and co-ordinator of the Multifaith chaplaincy.
I studied here for 2 years in the School of Adult Education and was awarded a Masters Degree in 2001.
In the best UTS tradition of embedding education in workplace practice, my education at UTS has been enormously helpful in my work at the university and in the pastoral and professional  ministries in which I have been involved.
The challenges offered while gaining a good grounding in community and radical adult education theory has led me to be able to understand and develop transformative practice in my work with young people, lesbian and gay people, those who suffer after an abortion and those who seek to learn as reflective practitioners in my work as a pastoral supervisor of those working in ministry and the helping professions.
I am pleased to continue to be involved with the UTS community as a member of the Human Research Ethics Committee.
Thank you to those who nominated me for this award, those who support me in my work and those marvellous community educators, activists and thinkers who facilitated my education here at UTS.
